A Thin Place for cello (2001)

A Thin Place - Rann Romh Urnuigh - for cello solo and the voice of the player (2001)

The text is in Gaelic.

Performed by the South African musician HA!Man. If you go to his website, you will hear lots of nice and good music.

The text comes from a collection of prayers which Alexander Carmichael in 1832 was given permission for by local people living in remote areas in Scotland, to write down.

"There is a Celtic saying that heaven and earth are only three feet apart, but in the thin places that distance is even smaller. A thin place is where the veil that separates heaven and earth is lifted and one is able to receive a glimpse of something devine.

I am currently working on a piece       for reed quintet. (oboe, clarinet      saxophone, bass clarinet and      bassoon).

My latest composition is a work for
cello solo: " Sing me a song of
    Consolation" .
It was premiered
    by René Berman in 'Kasteel
    Ammersoyen' on May 13, 2012.
